Initial Silverlight screenshots

In previous releases, WaterSums has used the Adobe SVG Viewer embedded in a web browser to display network maps. With the ongoing development of Silverlight, we decided it was time to try using Silverlight to display these maps.

A few problems with the Adobe SVG Viewer have encouraged this decision:

  1. It is no longer supported by Adobe.
  2. Keyboard interaction is difficult to achieve within the viewer.
  3. The viewer is not supported on Vista and can be difficult to use on Vista - particularly with 64-bit Vista!
  4. SVG support varies between browsers and this makes the future plan of exporting network maps and analysis results more difficult.

The goal was provide a network map interface that was easier to use and easier to maintain.

Development is still progressing, but here are some screenshots to show the progress. In general, there should be no visible difference between the two display engines, but a couple of extra features have been added already to the Silverlight display engine so that you can distinguish between the two.

If you look carefully at the screen shot, you will notice that there is a symbol displayed for the pump - a new feature being refined at the moment.

The second screenshot shows WaterSums with a tank indicating the initial water level in the tank - an enhancement added for the Silverlight map display.

Panning by click and drag and zooming using the scrollwheel are also extra features that will be included in a beta release which we hope to release soon.

The beta version of WaterSums with Silverlight will be made available to licensed WaterSums users and any others who have registered with this website. Keep watching this website for news!
